Wedding Wednesday: Memento Mori Themed Inspiration

It’s one of my favorite times of year. The time where everyone deems it acceptable to be a bit macabre and celebrate the dark parts of life. For some of us, it’s a time to be silly and poke a little fun at death, knowing that one day it will happen to us.

Throughout history, death was seen as a normal part of life. Popular belief says the notion of “memento mori,” meaning “remember you will die” originated with the Romans. In the 15th century, carrying a bit of death with you (typically a little skull of some sort on jewelry) became a part of one’s fashion to remind them to live for today as tomorrow is no guarantee.

Being a weird old goth, I love this notion and it’s aesthetic. Today’s board was inspired by this image (artist unknown):

I hope you enjoy and take a peek at that “engagement” ring!
