Welcome to a new week! On this week’s Monday’s Finding, I have two inspiration boards based on ye ol’ baby’s breath aka gypsophila (use this name to impress your florist) aka soap wort. Baby’s breath comes in several varieties and colors and is typically used as a filler for bouquets and floral arrangements.
Within the past couple of years, baby’s breath has begun to go from filler to focus. Brides are carrying bouquets that are solely made out of this flower and couples are using it in great abundance in their wedding decor. My personal favorite use of baby’s breath is in winter themed weddings as it resembles snow. It’s also great for couples who want fresh florals, but are on a tight budget.
Here are two boards that I hope will inspire you and perhaps move you to consider the possibilities of this humble flower. Enjoy.
Here is today’s final entry in the show. Gorgeous feathered creations to rustic burlap details, the Etsy Virtual Bridal Show team has you covered!
I began the Etsy Virtual Bridal Show last year to support individual artisans and vendors and to provide couples with alternatives to the mass produced wedding finds out there is traditional stores. The bridal world is evolving and growing away from the expected and moving toward individual craftsmanship and DIY touches. What’s great about Etsy is that you too can have a handmade look to your wedding without sacrificing your fingerprints to your hot glue gun.
In addition to helping individually owned shops, I wanted to bring awareness to my chosen charity: Wish Upon A Wedding. “Wish Upon a Wedding is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization that provides weddings and vow renewals to couples facing terminal illness or other serious life-altering circumstances, regardless of sexual orientation. Often, couples facing such situations do not have the energy, time, money, or resources needed to plan their wedding. Our organization takes care of all the details, offering couples a chance to relax and enjoy a very special day while surrounded by the love of their closest family and friends.” -www.wishuponawedding.org
Please note that donations are not required to view or for vendors participate in the show. This is my labor of love to bring awareness to Wish Upon A Wedding and my belief in supporting small businesses and individual artisans. If you feel led to help Wish Upon A Wedding accomplish their mission, please see Wish Upon A Wedding’s donation page.

Bridal Guide has released their wedding trend predictions for the coming year and one of my favorites is using non-florals in bouquets and decor typically reserved for the botanical big boys like peonies, roses, orchids, etc. Be it a hand-tied herbal posy or a grip of pine cones dotted with a bit of bling, many couples are choosing to forgo the expense of cut flowers. For some it’s an environmental issue: Have you seen those wedding shows where thousands of couture heirloom flowers are flown in from across the world? For others it’s utilizing the beauty of their surroundings: Think local landscapes such as an outdoor wedding in a desert climate using a variety of succulents and manzanita. Whatever the reason, non-florals are what’s trending and I believe will move beyond trend as more couples are looking to be environmentally conscious as well as seeking to blend in with their local landscape. Enjoy!
