Monday’s Finding: Ten Fab DIYs

Well, it’s Monday and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have my kiddo back from his Grandma’s house. He had a great time up in the mountains and even helped build a snow fort on the lake. My little snow beast is on the right.

I spent my weekend working on one of my favorite DIY wedding projects: my paper flowers made from pages of Pride and Prejudice. So, since I’m in the DIY spirit, I thought I’d show you some recent DIY finds via Pinterest. My personal fave are the recycled tin cans…gorgeous! Enjoy and I’d love to know if you are doing any DIY projects for your own fete.

Tip or Trend Tuesday: Trend: Upcycled and Recycled Book Pages

Trending for 2013? Upcycled and recycled book page decor and paperie, particularly from a favorite novel. In this case? You guessed it, “Pride and Prejudice.” Take a peek at some of these eco friendly decor and accessory options made from the pages of this 200 year-old literary wonder.

Wedding Wednesday: Woodland Wedding Inspiration With Deer Details

There’s nothing like a woodland wedding to stir my soul. I’m of the nature loving sort and a mountain girl at heart. In my opinion, there is nothing like the smell of pine mixed with dark soil, the opportunity to witness a bit of wildlife, and the green of the forest floor to ground me and put me at ease. If you are of the same sort, then today’s inspiration board is for you.

Looking to plan a woodland wedding of your own? If so, keep the following in mind.

  • Mother Nature has provided us with a glorious backdrop. So, keep additional decor to a minimum in order to maximize your surroundings.
  • Decor should enhance and blend in with the scenery, not compete with it.
  • Consider a dress without a train for your bridal ensemble.  Even a short train will collect a good deal of dirt. A sheath silhouette is a perfect complement to your woodsy nuptials.
  • In your floral/decor design, use natural elements such as local wildflowers, toadstools and mushrooms, and fauna to provide your guests with a total environmental experience.
  • For favors: jams made with local native fruits, locally produced honey, mini terrariums, or even a whimsical trinket such as a little gnome.

I hope you enjoy the board and have a wonderful day!

Monday’s Finding: Sticks and Stones…

If you are a couple on a budget, nature has so graciously supplied you with free or nearly free centerpiece ideas. Sticks, branches, and stones when used en masse can make a big decorative impact without killing your budget. You can go rustic with little embellishment, add votives for a bit of glitz, or add flowers (fresh, artificial, paper, etc.) for a touch of romance. Mix tall branch arrangements with low stone arrangements for a bit of variety or for a more uniform look, keep your table decor the same.

One of my favorite trends involves decorating the stone with crocheted mini doilies as shown below. Scattered in the middle or down the center of a table with white votives they will be gorgeous and can even double as a favor.

Here are some ideas to inspire your own sticks and stones arrangements. Take care all and have a great Monday!

Theme Thursday: For the love of berries

Today’s Theme Thursday is inspired by my dear friend, Mary. We met in college living on the same wing in the dorms and have been good friends these 18 years (our age is showing…lol). We had a blast in our younger years and since then, Mary has become a food revolutionary. Please indulge me as I give you a little background and a little bit on why Mary inspired this post and myself.

Mary co-owns Miracle Mountain Farm in Cookeville, TN. Her produce is “grown using only natural organic methods and only purchase seeds and other growing products from companies that are committed to sustainable and non-genetically modified agriculture. As members of this community, we believe very strongly in supporting local business and creating an environment on our farm and in our market that fosters the fulfillment of the potential we see all around us. As farmers, we are compelled to work toward food security within our region by empowering others to become more independent through stewardship.” -

In addition, Mary keeps all of us up to date on current events facing the agriculture industry such as the corporate exploitation of our American food supply. She doesn’t just own a farm, she lives to help her local community and our country take back control of what we put in to our bodies through direct action: Petitions, calls to government, disseminating information to the public. I for one have learned so much through her action that my family has changed the way we eat. In the main, we purchase food goods that are all natural and preferably organic from companies with sustainable practices and that do not use GMOs. The more we all support efforts like Mary’s Miracle Mountain Farms, we will see a food revolution in our country that is well overdue.

What in the world does this have to do with weddings? Well, we all know that Eco-conscious and sustainable living is on the rise and is thankfully fast becoming the norm. This has created a mini-revolution in the wedding industry. Designers are using organic and sustainable fabrics in their creations more than ever. Caterers that provide natural, organic, and local food are seeing a boom in their business. Florists and Floral Designers are also going organic and sustainable as well. If you believe as I do, ones convictions are not dismissed, even for a wedding.

So, here is my ode to Mary as I hear there are berries up at Miracle Mountain Farms. Thanks for indulging me and take care all!

Etsy Virtual Bridal Show: Day 17, Favors…the home stretch (1 of 4)

Welcome to the home stretch of the Etsy Virtual Bridal Show. Today we have all sorts of favor ideas for you from sweet treats to custom candles and we will also have our final giveaway. Stay tuned!

I began the Etsy Virtual Bridal Show last year to support individual artisans and vendors and to provide couples with alternatives to the mass produced wedding finds out there is traditional stores. The bridal world is evolving and growing away from the expected and moving toward individual craftsmanship and DIY touches. What’s great about Etsy is that you too can have a handmade look to your wedding without sacrificing your fingerprints to your hot glue gun.

In addition to helping individually owned shops, I wanted to bring awareness to my chosen charity: Wish Upon A Wedding. “Wish Upon a Wedding is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization that provides weddings and vow renewals to couples facing terminal illness or other serious life-altering circumstances, regardless of sexual orientation. Often, couples facing such situations do not have the energy, time, money, or resources needed to plan their wedding. Our organization takes care of all the details, offering couples a chance to relax and enjoy a very special day while surrounded by the love of their closest family and friends.”

Please note that donations are not required to view or for vendors participate in the show. This is my labor of love to bring awareness to Wish Upon A Wedding and my belief in supporting small businesses and individual artisans. If you feel led to help Wish Upon A Wedding accomplish their mission, please see Wish Upon A Wedding’s donation page.

Legal Mumbo Jumbo:
While I am a volunteer with Wish Upon a Wedding, Belle Memorie is not an official representative of Wish Upon a Wedding. In addition, Belle Memorie is not an official representative of Etsy or the vendors featured in the show. I have sought permission from each and every vendor featured to use their products and their photos. Please do not use these photos for personal gain or copy the designs presented. These products are the livelihood, passion, and intellectual property of each artist and to copy these items or to use them for person gain is both illegal and unethical.
