Tips or Trends Tuesday: 2013 Wedding Trend: Old World Glamor

Number eight on Bride Tide’s 2013 Wedding Trends list, “A return to elegance.” The past few years have seen the rise of vintage wedding style, shabby chic details, and lots of DIY fetes. On the boards and especially on Pinterest, I’ve notice that couples are beginning to post lots of glam inspiration. Sara, of Burnett’s Boards says, “…2013 brides will draw inspiration from old world glamour with cinematic and literary influences like The Great Gatsby, Anna Karenina, Downton Abbey, and A Royal Affair. I expect to see decadent fabrics, corsets, ornate lace details, metallics, costume jewelry, and more formal receptions. This trend is already being reflected on red carpets and runways around the world and I can’t wait to see it find its way back into weddings again!” – Sara, Burnett’s Boards

I agree with Sara and I wanted to provide you (especially those newly engaged over the Winter holidays), a jump start on your own glam wedding ‘do. Enjoy the boards and I’d love to hear what your ideas are for your own weddings. Drop me a comment/request and I’ll be happy to put together some inspiration for you and post it on an upcoming Wedding Wednesday. 🙂

Monday’s Finding: Eye Candy: Gorgeous Antique Bridal Gowns

Today’s Monday’s Finding is pure eye candy. If you love antique textiles, handmade lace, beautiful bustles, or previously loved articles of wonder, you are going to LOVE this post. Seriously, I even made myself SQUEE! when I pulled this post together.

I love antique textiles and fashion. I can spend hours upon hours perusing such sites as vintagetextile.com and antiquedress.com. Very few current gown designers nowadays use such exquisite fabric, beading, pleating, handmade lace, and intricately detailed materials and techniques any more. Each dress is a work of art, many bespoke and unique to the bride for which they were created. One of the gowns below even comes with pictures and the marriage certificate of the bride!

So, here is a gathering of 12 gorgeous antique gowns. Perhaps you might consider purchasing one of these wearable works or as inspiration for your own bridal ensemble. Enjoy!
