Tips or Trends Tuesday: 2013 Wedding Trend: Old World Glamor

Number eight on Bride Tide’s 2013 Wedding Trends list, “A return to elegance.” The past few years have seen the rise of vintage wedding style, shabby chic details, and lots of DIY fetes. On the boards and especially on Pinterest, I’ve notice that couples are beginning to post lots of glam inspiration. Sara, of Burnett’s Boards says, “…2013 brides will draw inspiration from old world glamour with cinematic and literary influences like The Great Gatsby, Anna Karenina, Downton Abbey, and A Royal Affair. I expect to see decadent fabrics, corsets, ornate lace details, metallics, costume jewelry, and more formal receptions. This trend is already being reflected on red carpets and runways around the world and I can’t wait to see it find its way back into weddings again!” – Sara, Burnett’s Boards

I agree with Sara and I wanted to provide you (especially those newly engaged over the Winter holidays), a jump start on your own glam wedding ‘do. Enjoy the boards and I’d love to hear what your ideas are for your own weddings. Drop me a comment/request and I’ll be happy to put together some inspiration for you and post it on an upcoming Wedding Wednesday. 🙂

Wedding Wednesday: Memento Mori Inspiration

It’s been a little bit since I have done an inspiration board for Wedding Wednesday. I’m really excited about this one as it speaks to my old gothic heart.

You gotta love "The Onion."

Today’s Wedding Wednesday is inspired by Victorian era mourning attire and most especially, memento mori (Latin: “remember you will die”). Memento mori are items such as jewelry, statuary, and art that are designed to remind one of the frailty of human life and to live this life to it’s fullest potential. We often vow to our love to love him or her “until death do us part,” so why not demonstrate that undying love with a bit of memento mori?

Here is a bit of momento mori wedding inspiration for you followed by an Etsy treasury with some great items to supply you with a healthy reminder of your pledge to your betrothed.
