Tips or Trends Tuesday: Tips: Wedding Dresses on a Wee Budget

If you’re like me, planning a wedding on a wee tiny budget can be a bit frustrating. You’ve scoured the magazines that feature “budget” wedding dresses only to find that their idea for a small budget and your idea of a small budget just aren’t the same. To you and me, a small budget is almost the equivalent of one of the mags idea of a budget dresses. My personal wedding budget is $3,000 and when I thumb through to find that “budget” wedding dress feature considers $1,200 – $2,000 as a budget dress, it can be discouraging and somewhat laughable.

So, what to do when you follow the 10% of budget rule for wedding attire (dress and tux combined) and that total sum for your dress is $150 or less? Honey, it’s time to hit the clearance racks of your local big box bridal shop such as David’s Bridal, think outside the box and hit Etsy, check out other online retailers like Mod Cloth, or department stores. You don’t have to give up beauty for budget. Here are some great dresses all under $150 from David’s Bridal, Etsy, and various online shops and department stores to help you on your way!

Etsy Virtual Bridal Show: Day 1, Bridal Gowns! (1 of 3)

Welcome to the Second Annual Etsy Virtual Bridal Show! Over the coming weeks, the Etsy Virtual Bridal Show Team will present the best of their handmade and vintage wares that are sure to give your wedding a unique and personal touch. The first section of our show is the one thing most brides think of immediately after their proposal: Bridal Gowns! Here is part one of three posts that the show will have for today.

I began the Etsy Virtual Bridal Show last year to support individual artisans and vendors and to provide couples with alternatives to the mass produced wedding finds out there is traditional stores. The bridal world is evolving and growing away from the expected and moving toward individual craftsmanship and DIY touches. What’s great about Etsy is that you too can have a handmade look to your wedding without sacrificing your fingerprints to your hot glue gun.

In addition to helping individually owned shops, I wanted to bring awareness to my chosen charity: Wish Upon A Wedding. “Wish Upon a Wedding is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization that provides weddings and vow renewals to couples facing terminal illness or other serious life-altering circumstances, regardless of sexual orientation. Often, couples facing such situations do not have the energy, time, money, or resources needed to plan their wedding. Our organization takes care of all the details, offering couples a chance to relax and enjoy a very special day while surrounded by the love of their closest family and friends.” -www.wishuponawedding.org

Please note that donations are not required to view or for vendors participate in the show. This is my labor of love to bring awareness to Wish Upon A Wedding and my belief in supporting small businesses and individual artisans. If you feel led to help Wish Upon A Wedding accomplish their mission, please see Wish Upon A Wedding’s donation page.

Legal Mumbo Jumbo:
While I am a volunteer with Wish Upon a Wedding, Belle Memorie is not an official representative of Wish Upon a Wedding. In addition, Belle Memorie is not an official representative of Etsy or the vendors featured in the show. I have sought permission from each and every vendor featured to use their products and their photos. Please do not use these photos for personal gain or copy the designs presented. These products are the livelihood, passion, and intellectual property of each artist and to copy these items or to use them for person gain is both illegal and unethical.

Stay tuned for parts 2 and 3! Really, you’ll want to as part three reveals today’s giveaway!

Theme Thursday: Mariposa

Today’s Theme Thursday is coming to you a bit earlier than usual. We in Colorado are having some wicked crazy wind along with a big temperature drop and since my head is a barometer, I was awoken by one seriously bad headache. Now that my headache is gone and I’m fueled by caffeine, I’m actually up before the sun. Make note of it, it doesn’t happen very often. 😉

Anyhoo, this week I wanted to focus on a theme that isn’t so campy. I adore butterflies and typically you see butterfly themed weddings in brights and pastels set in a garden. This inspiration board takes butterflies out of the garden and puts them in the midst of a black and white glamour fete. My fave in the set has to be the over the top absolutely gorgeous Alexander McQueen heels!

Theme Thursday: Midwinter Night’s Dream

Today’s Theme Thursday is inspired by the glitter and fantasy of the Winter season. I love waking up to see the city blanketed in snow aka nature’s glitter. We’ve had a bit of an unusual start to Winter here in Denver with a week of alternating snow and sunshine. The extra snow has really awakened my spirit and made me appreciate living in a place where we get to experience seasons. Growing up in San Diego, I’d watch all the holiday specials wondering when our snow was coming.

Since moving to Colorado almost 11 years ago, I have never regretted the move. When it snows, I’m like a little kid ready to create my snowball arsenal for a friendly snowball fight with my kiddo and I have no shame in dropping to the ground to create snow angels. That’s me in the pic below.

If you’re planning a Winter wedding or any sort of Winter fete, I encourage you to make it as dreamy as possible. Think ice sculpted to look like crystals, tons of white candles scattered amongst ice blue accoutrement, and white trees dripping with glitter. For favors, little mason jar snow globes decorated to invoke that Midwinter Night’s Dream you have provided for your guests. I hope today’s post inspires you to create your own Winter dreamland. Here’s a great drink recipe to put you in that Winter mood:

Winter Wonderland Martini

Ingredients:

2 oz Van Gogh Vanilla Vodka

1 oz White crème de cacao

2 oz White chocolate liqueur

1 oz Cream

½ Teaspoon of coconut flakes

1 White chocolate wafer stick

Directions:
Add the vanilla vodka, white chocolate liqueur, crème de cacao and cream into a shaker and shake over ice. Strain martini into a martini glass and add half a teaspoon of coconut flakes. Stir martini gently with white chocolate wafer stick to create a blizzard! -http://singlemindedwomen.com/food-and-wine/holiday-cocktails-winter-wonderland-martini/#

Midwinter Night's Dream

Friday’s Favorites

Well, it certainly has been a week at Parties by Kristen headquarters. I’m feeling better and wanted to share some of my favorite vintage and vintage inspired wedding bits and bobs on Etsy that will give your wedding that vintage wedding inspiration shoot look, without the enormous task of doing it all yourself. There are great vendors on Etsy who scour yard sales, thrift shops, and flea markets for lovely wedding finds as well as artisans who create amazing vintage inspired items sure to have your guests wonder how you did it all. Here are some great finds in a variety of colors. Enjoy!

Dream Finds Friday: For the love of milk glass

This week’s Dream Finds Friday features one of my favorite things. Yes, as in those Julie Andrews sort of favorite things: milk glass. I have collected milk glass for about *mumble* years. I love it so much that we are using my current collection and adding to it each month to use for mine and Mr. Wondermous’ wedding. It pains me to do it, but I will suffer through. 😉

One of my sources for unique and higher end (aka non-thrift store 50% on Saturday) milk glass pieces, is Etsy. When purchasing online, make sure that if a vendor says a piece is Fenton or Westmorland that they have a pic or send you a pic to make sure the mark is there and you are getting what you are paying for. There is a lot of milk glass out there that is/was made by a variety of sources that aren’t made by the high end glass makers. When purchasing, stick to what you love and don’t worry so much about whether it is made by a high end glass maker.

As I mentioned last week, all of my Dream Finds Friday posts will be items from Etsy. Oh, and when you are finished here, please follow this link to find out what other dream finds are out there awaiting you this week.

Here are some of my milk glass “Dream Finds” currently on Etsy:
