Monday’s Finding: Oscar Inspired Bridal Fashions

Last night’s Oscar red carpet saw some definite hits and misses. Okay, I’m going to get snarky here for a mo’. In my opinion, the major miss of the night was Anne Hathaway’s worst dressed trifecta in Prada: pointy nipples, too much side boob, and ill placed jewelry. Sure, there were others that were disheveled and dumpy, but I guess I expect more from Anne and the side boob trend is super tacky.

However, there were several ladies that stood out in trendsetting wedding worthy inspired frocks that I just have to show you. Check out the board below for the style I feel can easily translate in to gorgeous bridal looks and then keep scrolling for some current bridal designs that speak to their Oscar counterparts: Amy Adams with her feathered ball gown by Oscar de la Renta, Zooey Deschanel with her vintage inspired floral embroidered frock, Shaun Robinson in a crisp black and white gown, Jessica Chastain in her gold classic Hollywood styled gown by Giorgio Armani, Charlize Theron in a beautifully structured white peplum dress, Kristen Stewart’s lace sheath with a tulle train by Reem Acra, Alicia Vikander in an on-trend long sleeved gown by Elie Saab, Kristen Chenoweth in Tony Ward, and winner of the Best Actress Award…Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture.

Wedding Wednesday: Red Velvet Vintage Inspiration

Today’s Wedding Wednesday is inspired by that deliciousness known as “red velvet.” It’s red, it’s chocolately (if done right…like my Grandmother’s), and that cream cheese frosting is SO worth the extra workout minutes to burn it off. I’ve got a pretty little naked red velvet cake and one gorgeous confection of a wedding dress to complement it. I hope you like it and the Red Velvet Caketini recipe!

Monday’s Finding: Gorgeous Budget Friendly Candle Decor

Are you on a squeaky tight budget with little to add to your ceremony and reception decor? Well, today I’ve got some budget friendly candle decor inspiration to help you out. Even if budget isn’t an issue and things like allergies or you just aren’t a flower person, these aisle and table ideas are simply gorgeous!

You can have a beautiful wedding and not spend a ton of money. As a wedding and event planner, I’ve worked with a vast range of budgets and with all of them, my first “go to” spot for decor details was the local thrift stores. If you love the looks of clear glass, milk glass, wrought iron, then definitely get thrifting. You can find a great many items like tea cups, vintage jars, and fab bits of rustic wrought iron to hold your candles.

Looking for a bit more bang for your buck? Give those pieces a new life with a fresh coat of paint, glitter, or decoupage:

Or, simply use them as is. Whatever you choose, you can have a beautiful wedding on any budget and candles are guaranteed ambiance for a lot less money than flowers. Speaking of less money…check out your local Catholic supply store for great deals on candles from votives to tall candles in a jar. I used to purchase mine by the case and they were a lot cheaper on the budget than getting them at the grocery store. In addition, this amazing gem of a shop has great candles in bulk and just about everything else for your wedding too: Sav on Crafts.

Well, without further ado…ceremony and reception candle decor inspiration:

Wedding Wednesday: Japanese Garden Inspiration

One of my absolute favorite places to go to in San Diego, is the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park. Once upon a time, there was a tea house in that spot that was built in 1914 for the 1915 Panama-California Exposition. It remained a functioning tea house until it was dismantled in 1941. In August 1990, the Japanese Friendship Garden was built to honor the memory of the original tea house. It currently holds exhibitions and you can get a bite to eat and sip some tea to cap off your visit to this gorgeous spot.

For some reason, this spot was on my mind today as I was talking to my kiddo about where I grew up. The topic of my many trips to Balboa Park came up and I mentioned the garden (which wasn’t there when I was a kid, but I did stop off at during a conference I was attending). It’s a lovely spot and the inspiration for today’s Wedding Wednesday.

Japanese inspired DIY Favors:
Spicy Asian Brittle (if you leave out the red pepper flakes, the brittle will be more in line with Japanese cuisine)

Tip or Trend Tuesday: Handy dandy masculine wear tips and trends

Today I thought I’d help out my masculine readers with some great infographics from AK FEDEAU and The Art of Manliness to assist you with your wedding day ensemble. Whether you are looking to wear a 3-piece or two-button suit, or a formal tuxedo, get to know your menswear before you go shopping. This will make for a quick and easy shopping experience for you and your attendants. Don’t know how to tie a bow tie or a traditional necktie? Check out the visuals below and nail it on your wedding day. Finally, the basics on polishing your shoes. Make those bad boys shine to complete your wedding day look.

The rumor around menswear is that double-breasted jackets are back, courtesy of movies like The Great Gatsby and shows like Downton Abbey. The other trend I want to share with you comes from the pages of a great many wedding blogs and photographers…super fun socks for the groom and attendants. So, here’s some great guides and how-tos for you along with some wedding day ensemble inspiration.
