Tips or Trends Tuesday: Whip that hair in to wedding-ready shape!

“You’re a wedding and event planner, what do you know about hair?” Well, my dear readers, my first dream in life was to be a top hair stylist. So, I did in fact go to cosmetology school and combine that with 22 years of processing my hair, I’ve also picked up a lot of tips along the way.

When it comes to wedding hair, I’m one of the “I’m growing it out” folk. Others already have long locks (jealous) and are good to go. Then, there are those who love their hair short and sassy and are keeping it that way. No matter which wedding hair camp you are in, you definitely want your hair to be at it’s best for your big day. Pre-wedding hair prep is a must to ensure your locks make wedding photo magic. Think of it like giving an artist a lovingly prepared canvas as opposed to a piece of sketch paper ripped out of a kids grocery store sketch pad.

THIS

NOT THIS

How does one start the hair transformation? Step one: DIET. No, not starving yourself or eating gallons of cabbage soup…it’s about what you eat. Hair is essentially dead protein, so increasing your protein intake is key. Then, there is supplementation: gelatin for strength, silica for strength and repair, biotin for growth, and a full chain of amino acids.

Next, cut your hair. WHAT?!? Yep, to keep your ends healthy, you need to get your hair trimmed on a regular basis as it’s growing out. How often depends on the condition of your hair. So, see a well qualified stylist and follow his or her recommendations.

Then, talk to said stylist about hair care products specifically designed for your hair type and/or for those growing out your hair. Also, consider in-salon treatments such as keratin treatments and Nanomax (uses steam on dry hair to restore the amount of moisture in your hair to optimum levels). At-home treatments such as hair masks and leave-in conditioning treatments can do wonders for your hair as well. My fave is Morrocanoil.

Finally, be gentle with your hair. Stop brushing your hair to death and never ever brush wet hair. To do so is asking for breakage. Get yourself a wide tooth comb for taking care of wet hair. Take a break from your blow-dryer and other heat styling tools. When you plan to heat style, use a heat protector such as a spray or gel to prevent damage.

Following these tips and those of your stylist will make for a seriously great hair day on your special day!

Monday’s Finding: Unique DIY Place Cards

So, how was your weekend? Mine, it was okay. My body decided to plot against me, so I rested a bit. Had a good movie night with my kiddo and Mr. Wondermous, even though we watched Transformers 3. I hope one day my kid will appreciate that 2.5 hours of my life I’m never going to get back…lol. I believe Robot Chicken’s summary of Micheal Bay’s movies said it all, “MICHAEL BAY PRESENTS…EXPLOSIONS! EXPLOSIONS FROM MICHAEL BAY! MICHAEL BAYSPLOSIONS! MI-BA-BLA-BA SPLOSIONS! MICHAEL BLA-BLA SPLOOM! MABLA SPLOOM! MICHAEL BAYSPLOSIONS!”

With that said, today’s Monday’s Finding is a collection of unique easy to DIY place cards. In my search, I noticed that there seems to be a mixup regarding escort cards and place cards. Escort cards not only contain the name of the guest, but also tells them what table to sit at. Typically these are located directly outside or inside the reception space. Place cards only have the name of your guest and are set on the table the guest is assigned to in order for them to sit at a specific seat. Place cards are definitely an option for those who want more formalized seating, so why not make them decorative and part of your overall theme. Here are some great DIY place cards I found via Pinterest and Google. Enjoy!

Friday’s Favorites: Glam Cakes, Budget Dresses, and lots of Sparkle

Happy Friday! What are you up to this weekend? Me, I plan on getting some major organizing and cleaning of my house done so that I can re-clutter it with my wedding projects. Transitioning from planning for others and planning for myself has been interesting. I’m finding it’s so much easier making decisions for others than for myself. Thankfully, my fiance is really good about voicing his opinion, so we are making decisions together.

I hope you enjoy this week’s favorites based on this past week’s posts. There is some really great offerings from Etsy shops sure to get you shopping. Have a great weekend everyone!

Stunner Thursday: Put a little sparkle in to your ensemble…glitter!

Today’s Stunner Thursday is all about adding a bit of glitter in to your bridal ensemble. The perfect way to do it? Glitter is perfect for your shoes and your mani. It’s suggested to steer clear of glitter when it comes to your make up as it doesn’t photograph correctly. Instead of beautiful sparkles, the glitter reflects the light and shows up as tiny white spots. Who wants that all over your face? Yep, no one.

So, if you are looking to add sparkle, keep it to your shoes and nails, which won’t alter your appearance. Here are some fun shoes and manis to help you get your sparkle on the right way!

Wedding Wednesday: Black and White Butterfly Masquerade

Today’s Wedding Wednesday was inspired by this amazing cake (see board below) from Gimme some Sugar Custom Cakes in Las Vegas, NV. Gimme Some Sugar is a custom cake design studio with some truly amazing creations. In addition to the gallery on their site, here is a link to their Flickr page with even more fabulous cakes. Seriously, their cakes are jaw droppingly gorgeous and I could look at their work all day!

Many couples often pair a stand out color with a black and white palette, but I think that a simple black and white palette works beautifully on its own. After finding these gorgeous butterfly masquerade masks, I had my inspiration board theme. I hope you enjoy it!

Tips or Trends Tuesday: Tips: Wedding Dresses on a Wee Budget

If you’re like me, planning a wedding on a wee tiny budget can be a bit frustrating. You’ve scoured the magazines that feature “budget” wedding dresses only to find that their idea for a small budget and your idea of a small budget just aren’t the same. To you and me, a small budget is almost the equivalent of one of the mags idea of a budget dresses. My personal wedding budget is $3,000 and when I thumb through to find that “budget” wedding dress feature considers $1,200 – $2,000 as a budget dress, it can be discouraging and somewhat laughable.

So, what to do when you follow the 10% of budget rule for wedding attire (dress and tux combined) and that total sum for your dress is $150 or less? Honey, it’s time to hit the clearance racks of your local big box bridal shop such as David’s Bridal, think outside the box and hit Etsy, check out other online retailers like Mod Cloth, or department stores. You don’t have to give up beauty for budget. Here are some great dresses all under $150 from David’s Bridal, Etsy, and various online shops and department stores to help you on your way!
