Wedding Wednesday: Tangerine Tango and Ultramarine Green

If you love bright crisp colors, then today’s inspiration board should be right up your alley. Earlier this month, Pantone (the leader in color theory and development) released their Fall 2012 color report based on New York Fashion Week. The report showed a bit of a departure from the typical fall colors of basic brown, dark orange, mustard yellow, and raisin. What Pantone presented are beautiful rich bright color mixed with two beautiful neutrals:

In the coming weeks, Wedding Wednesday will feature inspiration boards based on this fabulous color palette. We start with the color Pantone predicts will be the hottest for fall: Tangerine Tango. I have mixed Tangerine Tango with Ultramarine Green to create a bright and modern inspiration board. Stay tuned for a month of Wedding Wednesdays filled with color!

Monday’s Finding: Simple And Sweet Marriage Proposal Ideas

We’ve all watched those shows where over the top proposals are highlighted: a quick jet to Venice where Andrea Bocelli is waiting to serenade you in a gondola filled to the brim with roses as fireworks explode overhead. I’ll let the proposers in on a little secret, the average person isn’t looking for that sort of proposal. What is important is that the proposal is heartfelt and the one you love most is looking in to your eyes as they say they want to be with you forever.

When Mr. Wondermous (I know, I haven’t brought him up in a while) proposed, it was sweet and came from his amazing heart. It turned a very dark day in to something I will cherish forever. We had flown out to CA with my son so that we could spend our last moments with my mother who after bouts with three different types of cancer in two years and what appeared to be successful chemotherapy, had a stroke due to the chemotherapy weakening her heart. She had spent nearly a month in a regular hospital and I talked with her nearly every day. You could hear the degeneration of her thought processes as well as the pain in her voice. By the time the decision was made to do hospice care, she was experiencing profound confusion and significant memory loss. When my dad told me that my mom was slipping away from us, my then boyfriend looked at me and said, “Book the flight, rent the car, we’re going tomorrow.” He gave up his tax return and what he was going to do with it up. It was the single most unselfish and romantic act I’d ever experienced.

As we made our way from CO to CA with my six-year-old kiddo, Mr. Wondermous took care of everything. He kept kiddo entertained, he held my hand and wiped my tears as we flew in to a day I had hoped wouldn’t have come for many years. My mother was more than just a mom, a mommy, etc. Mom and I were two peas in a pod. We were confidantes and best friends. We talked to each other nearly every day and for hours. She and my dad were my rocks and foundation, but one part of that foundation was crumbling and I was so unsteady. My boyfriend was there bolstering me and holding me up. Did I mention that this was the first time he was meeting my family?

The most amazing site was seeing my mom’s eyes light up when she knew who we were. We were gifted with long moments of clarity with which to let her know that we were there by her side. She and Mr. Wondermous had an immediate connection. One myself and my family noticed immediately. She wanted Mr. Wondermous right there with her. At one point when I wasn’t around, he asked for her permission to marry me and she gave her approval. He asked my dad, my sister, and my son before he asked me. I will always remember the smell of the orange blossoms as he asked me in front of my parent’s house. For me, it was perfect.

I didn’t need moonlight serenades, bling, and pyrotechnics to know that Mr. Wondermous loved me unconditionally and so deeply that he’d sign on to forever with me. Why he would put himself through that is beyond me…lol. So, if you are considering proposing to the one you love, make that proposal about the two of you. Don’t try to outdo some crazy TV hyped proposal. Demonstrate your love as only you can and in a way that both of you will find memorable and sweet.

For today’s Monday’s Finding, I present to you some simple and sweet ways to propose to your love:

Friday’s Favorites: Sunken Ships and Butterflies

Happy Friday! Can you guess what I’m looking forward to this weekend? Sleeping in and the Great Bridal Expo here in Denver, but mostly…sleeping in. 🙂

Today’s Friday’s Favorites brings us two lovely Etsy treasuries based on this week’s posts on Titanic inspired Edwardian themed wedding and my love of butterflies. Both treasuries today have a dusky muted palette that when taken together, you could realistically create a singular theme. If you combine the two, just be sure to have one dominant idea with the other being secondary so as not to be too busy.

I hope you enjoy and have a great weekend!

Theme Thursday: Mariposa

Today’s Theme Thursday is coming to you a bit earlier than usual. We in Colorado are having some wicked crazy wind along with a big temperature drop and since my head is a barometer, I was awoken by one seriously bad headache. Now that my headache is gone and I’m fueled by caffeine, I’m actually up before the sun. Make note of it, it doesn’t happen very often. 😉

Anyhoo, this week I wanted to focus on a theme that isn’t so campy. I adore butterflies and typically you see butterfly themed weddings in brights and pastels set in a garden. This inspiration board takes butterflies out of the garden and puts them in the midst of a black and white glamour fete. My fave in the set has to be the over the top absolutely gorgeous Alexander McQueen heels!

Wedding Wednesday: Titanic Destination

Couple to be hitched at largest Titanic attraction

This is the sort of headline that makes someone like myself go, “SQUEE!” Immediately my mind goes in to overdrive and I can’t keep myself from the brainstorm that ensues. Must…design…must…plan…must utilize this spark of inspiration. Titanic Belfast is sure to become a destination spot for couples looking for an meticulously authentic late Edwardian fete. Each area is a nearly exact replica of the RMS Titanic, which was built in Belfast (hence the exhibition and creation of the Titanic Quarter in Belfast Harbour).

Can you picture your ceremony on the steps of the Grand Staircase?

With a reception in the Gallery just beyond the staircase?

With all of this beautifully historical scenery, who couldn’t resist the glamour and romance of that bygone era? So, I give you my inspiration board for a Titanic inspired wedding perfect for a location such as Titanic Belfast.

Tips or Trends Tuesday: Trend: The Repurposed Wedding

With the continued rise in Eco-consciousness and the DIY wedding movement, there is no greater marriage of the two than re-purposed wedding bits and bobs. Personally, I can’t get enough of it and in planning our own wedding, my fiance and me are making our fete beautiful, economical, AND earth friendly by re-purposing family heirlooms, thrift store finds, as well as handmade re-purposed items via sites like Etsy. Why fuel the use of dead dinosaurs and landfill fodder when with a bit of creativity, you can take what is already out there and glam it up?

This Etsy treasury is straight out of my favorites. This is pretty much a “Who’s Who” of my favorite shops. I can always count on these amazingly talented folk to have something that always puts a twinkle in my eye.
